DOB: Are you interested in working on the EBC? Answer the survey

Dear NYC Construction Code Revision Committees Members,

As promised way back in 2017, concurrent to our Construction Code Revision efforts, the Department has been working with our ICC consultant team to develop a code that specifically addresses alterations to existing buildings (a.k.a. the Existing Building Code - EBC).  We are happy to announce that our consultants have completed Phase 3 of the EBC development project and produced a draft working document.

It has always been the Department’s intention to utilize the members of Construction Codes Revision Committees to review the EBC.  So, as we are winding down with Construction Codes revision work, we are planning the process for the EBC code review.

To that end, we’ve created a brief survey in order to assess if you are interested in continuing your commitment to review and improve the way we permit and regulate construction and alterations to existing buildings. Please see link below.  We ask that you answer this survey by close of business on

Wednesday, August 26, 2020.

The survey is located here (Please note, this survey cannot  be accessed using older versions of Internet Explorer):

Our goal is to kick-off the Existing Building Code Review Committees in the next few months. While still in the planning stages, we anticipate holding several overview meetings for all committee members when we will discuss the general structure of the EBC, so that all committee members  have a general understanding of the EBC framework.

In the beginning of September, we anticipate soft launching the work of the Structural Committee with several focus-type meetings to discuss conceptual improvements to safety.

We greatly appreciate your dedication and years of service to code, and sincerely hope you will continue to be a part of this exciting effort.

So, step one is to complete the survey to let us know if you are interested in participating.

You can do so by clicking on the following (Please note, this survey cannot be accessed using older versions of Internet Explorer)

If you have any questions, please contact Maria Taslitsky at  Out of respect for your fellow committee members, please do not hit “reply all” to any related correspondence.

Stay well and healthy,
